About us
The 780th Military Intelligence Brigade (Cyber) was activated on Oct. 1, 2011, as a Major Subordinate Command under the U.S. Army Intelligence & Security Command, while also serving under the operational control of U.S. Army Cyber Command. The Brigade is the only operational offensive cyberspace Brigade in the U.S. Army, where we actively fight alongside our Joint partners to achieve U.S. supremacy in an increasingly contested cyberspace and electromagnetic domain. In Dec. 2010, the Army approved the establishment of a cyberspace operations Brigade, and on Oct. 1, 2011, the 780th MI BDE was organized. Subsequently, the 744th MI Battalion was re-designated as the 781st MI Battalion (Cyber) and re-organized under the new Brigade. The Brigade officially unfurled its colors for the first time during a ceremony at Fort Meade, MD on Dec. 1, 2011. The Brigade began building a second Battalion headquartered at Fort Eisenhower, GA in 2011 culminating with the establishment and designation of the 782nd MI Battalion (Cyber) on June 7, 2013. Detachments Texas and Hawaii were organized as part of the 782nd MI BN in 2013 and 2014 respectively, giving the Brigade a footprint in four states supporting multiple operational headquarters. In July 2017, the Brigade established the Cyber Solutions Development Detachment. In November 2022, the Brigade established Task Force Praetorian to consolidate and support the unit’s key mission enablers. TF-P was officially approved by HQDA in July 2023, and formally recognized as the Operations Support Element on March 1, 2024. On June 6, 2018, the Department of the Army directed ARCYBER to activate the 915th Cyber Warfare Battalion. On Oct. 16, 2022, the 915th CWB was officially re-designated as the 11th Cyber Battalion. The 11th CB is the first scalable organic expeditionary capability to meet the Army’s current and projected tactical cyberspace requirements. Rewards for Justice – Reward Offer for Information on North Korean Malicious Cyber Actor Targeting U.S. Critical Infrastructure July 25, 2024, U.S. Department of State https://lnkd.in/eSqjCWgm The U.S. Department of State’s Rewards for Justice (RFJ) program, administered by the Diplomatic Security Service, is offering a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to the identification or location of any person who, while acting at the direction or under the control of a foreign government, engages in certain malicious cyber activities against U.S. critical infrastructure in violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. Rim Jong Hyok is a national of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) who is associated with a malicious cyber group known as Andariel. The Andariel group is controlled by the DPRK’s military intelligence agency, the Reconnaissance General Bureau, which has primary responsibility for the DPRK’s malicious cyber activities and is also involved in the DPRK’s illicit arms trade. Rim and others conspired to hack into the computer systems of U.S. hospitals and other healthcare providers, install Maui ransomware, and extort ransoms. The ransomware attacks encrypted victims’ computers and servers used for medical testing or electronic medical records and disrupted healthcare services. These malicious cyber actors then used the ransom payments to fund malicious cyber operations targeting U.S. government entities and U.S. and foreign defense contractors, among others.
