Automation should be very systematically targeted especially in areas where tasks involve drudgery i.e activity bad in ergonomics, heavy work and relieve the pain first as automation does not come cheap. As team mates start seeing the benefit they sign up for redeployment and upskilling/ Reskilling. This helps change management as they see, believe and act.

The challenge is to embrace technology in a positive way. Every time I hear about the “lights out” factory it tells me the organization has a negative employee relationship. Automation just because you can is misguided; many projects forget about true cost benefit analysis, decreasing factory flexibility, monument creation, and dependence ($$) on automation integrators for support. In some cases in India automation should be done like Automobile and agriculture but other this g must be done by manually as masses will have emplyment. There is a theory in Engineering when automation to be done when not to be done. However you can not have a running competition between crippled and a healthy one. From my perspective, speaking to employees is always an important step prior to planning automation as they are the ones who actually know the process. SOPs are great, but typically miss the human element out meaning that - especially to dyslexic individuals such as myself - fine details are easy to overlook or misinterpret. I've seen manufacturing engineers making changes without consulting workers first hand and although this was not automation, they made changes purely looking at data which was slightly inaccurate meaning the process was much more difficult to complete within takt time. From this experience on the opposite side, I learned that no matter what the change is, no matter how big or small, involving the operators is key.

Industrial Automation improves efficiency & also aids the completion of sub-processes faster, enhancing overall process velocity & helping to achieve production targets more easily! Automation aids the human effort in the process, not a means of substitution. - Automated quality checks, along with Manual quality checks make the process quality-centric. Human intervention is equally important to ensure the effectiveness of Automation. How? - Can intervene to stop the process if any safety risks are detected or to address any issues/breakdowns. - Can create, change & set the standard process parameters, & running conditions tailored to the needs of varying product lines.
