Consider fostering collaboration with other departments beyond IT. By understanding the broader organizational goals and challenges, you can tailor your IT strategies to better support the company's overall objectives. As developers, we tend to strive for excellence in our solutions, and we take pride in our work. However, it's important not to become too attached to our solutions. Embrace the fact that what works well today might become outdated tomorrow. When developing a solution, focus on solving the problem at hand effectively. Avoid overengineering or adding unnecessary features that may complicate the solution. Embrace an iterative approach, refining your solution over time to better meet the needs of your users. In conclusion, don't worry about creating a perfect solution right away; instead, focus on solving problems the right way.
In the realm of IT Strategy, data is king. Mastery over data analytics and interpretation is a non-negotiable skill for future-proofing your career. You must understand how to collect, analyze, and leverage data to make informed decisions that drive business success. This involves not only technical know-how but also a strategic mindset that can discern patterns, predict trends, and translate insights into actionable IT initiatives. By harnessing the power of data, you position yourself as an invaluable asset who can guide your organization through the complexities of the digital age.

Sometimes we think of data mastery as a luxury, not a necessity. However, you don't always need a dedicated Data Scientist. Consider hiring a Power BI Analyst or, even better, learn how to use it yourself. It's amazing the effect it has on actually achieving your goals when you can visualize your company's progress through dashboards. It almost feels like playing a video game (and I love that).

Agility in IT Strategy goes beyond software development; it's a mindset that should permeate your entire approach to technology. An agile mindset advocates for flexibility, iterative progress, and responsiveness to change. As an IT strategist, championing agile principles means you're equipped to swiftly adapt to market shifts and technological disruptions. Implementing agile methodologies across projects can enhance collaboration, reduce risks, and lead to more successful outcomes. Cultivate an environment where agility is not just a buzzword but the backbone of your strategic processes.

Based on my experiences and observations, the mindset of each team member is crucial. You can't make a difference without a mindset ready to learn, grow, change, try, and strive for excellence. A leader is also needed to maintain a clear vision while guiding teams to take small actions that contribute to the final goal. You have to accept making mistakes and adapt quickly. Finally, stay focused on what adds value and avoid wasting time on trends. All this is only possible with a good change leader. #RijaRKT

Cybersecurity threats are a growing concern, and a robust security focus is indispensable for any IT Strategy professional. You must be vigilant and proactive in understanding potential risks and implementing measures to protect your organization's digital assets. This includes staying updated on the latest security protocols, educating employees on best practices, and developing comprehensive disaster recovery plans. By making security a cornerstone of your IT strategy, you demonstrate foresight and responsibility, qualities that will set you apart in the competitive landscape.
A collaborative approach is essential in the interdependent world of IT Strategy. You should cultivate strong relationships with various departments within your organization to ensure that IT initiatives are aligned with overall business objectives. This means working closely with stakeholders to understand their needs and challenges, and then translating that knowledge into strategic technological solutions. By fostering an environment of collaboration, you break down silos, encourage innovation, and create a cohesive strategy that propels your organization forward.

It’s very important that different teams across an IT organization understand the true value proposition of the business for which the IT teams build/solution. The IT strategist needs to play the role of an educator in this aspect to ensure optimal coordination and collaboration.
Lastly, having a clear vision for the future is what truly distinguishes a leader in IT Strategy. You must not only react to the current technological climate but also anticipate where technology is heading and prepare your organization accordingly. This involves strategic planning, investment in emerging technologies, and a keen eye for innovation. By establishing a forward-thinking vision and guiding your organization towards it, you set the stage for long-term success in an increasingly digital world.

Staying updated with the latest technology is crucial. However, the key to success lies in defining your company's vision. Your vision is the fuel that propels you towards making the right decisions. If you focus solely on technology without considering your vision, you may end up using trending solutions that don't align with your users' needs. I have to admit, I worked without a clear vision for years. It took me a long time to understand how a vision should be defined. But now I realize that the key is to prioritize people and how to help them, rather than solely focusing on money. Once you discover your vision, everything falls into place. You'll be better equipped to choose (or create) the best technology for the problems at hand.

Warning, warning, warning! Your brain is naturally calibrated to a future vision point in time. Learn what that is and account for it. There is little value in knowing exactly where you need to be in 5 years (even perfectly accurately), if the requirement is for 2 years. If your brain is tuned to 5 then indulge it and then work backwards to 2. There are no prizes for being right about some far point in time if you can’t be successful or survive on the way there. You need to become a time-traveler, and see your journey from multiple timelines and perspectives, then travel back to today and plan well.
