In my opinion, there are some outstanding practices that are crucial like a capacity buffer and redundant systems to avoid unexpected spikes in demand or the loss of critical infrastructure like internet access. Both just haven't to be implemented but also regularly tested to assure availability. Restructuring manual processes and documentations and moving them to digital operations and archives reduce the risk to lose critical knowledge and information due to employees issues enormously. But this demands also a change in the mindset of people. ITOM is a living process that has to be updated steadily to be prepared for current risks. To assume a organization is protected because a policy is created once, put the organization on high risk.

Avoid silo-ing of your team's responsibilities and capabilities. While you want and need a highly skilled team ready to respond to those mission critical incidents, have a second line of defense built out through staff who have expressed interest in learning and expanding their skillsets..Just as importantly, have a documented plan to implement that transition of second line of defense without impacting other operations. This approach only works if effective management practices will recognize, reward and encourage this kind of behavior and mindset.
