I find it is helpful, in a sale transaction, to create a value scenario for normal market, user buyer and accretion buyer ie for development. This scenario should be detailed, not a napkin proforma.

If so, it instantly makes me trustworthy. So, yes, being authentic is important. But only if you know you are honest and direct.

My recent transitioning period was certainly one which I can honestly say have shed the light on characters that I never anticipated. Setting the playing field up for previous colleagues and ensuring internal succession planning was in place 👌 and ensuring transparency in recruitment - it was astonishing to see the subsequent lack of integrity and breakdown in trust. As such my view is and will always be authenticity and trustworthiness are fundamental in building lasting relationships in Corporate Real Estate as everything is about long term value creation not short term gain. As such the reason why my recent experience was such a big disappointment when people don't have these basics in place.

Listen to what people say, what they do, what their passions are. Even if you have just one conversation in an event make it count. No one remembers the person who was busy gathering visiting cards. What's more no one wants to do business with such a person either! Everyone would love to meet a person who was genuinely interested in their business again. But trust takes time to build and you have to be consistent in all your interactions.

Si l'organisation d'événements (petit-déjeuner, afterwork,...) est un premier pas, fournir du contenu qualitatif et au service de son auditoire est essentiel. Devenir un référent dans son domaine par le biais d'une analyse qui nous est propre fait grandement la différence dans un flux d'informations plus ou moins pertinentes.

Exchanging best-practices and key contacts and working towards a combined goal is a great way to hone your craft, and share what you've learned with others who can benefit from mentorship. There are plenty of others who want to inquire, be curious, learn, share and prosper with you. Start a conversation in 2024 you may not have started last year, and see where it takes you. For starters undertake some introspection to understand what you will actually enjoy and that plays to your strengths be it writing , speaking or socializing. Then be strategic about how you spend your time to achieve maximum return on the investments of your time. Choose industry associations , events and interventions and then actively engage based on the first two exercises. Try to select associations , mediums and events where your skill set will likely add value. Try to go to where the puck is going not to where it’s been. Finally learn and most importantly listen !

Take up difficult deals. Just because most do not want to pick up a challenge, do not allow yourself to miss such opportunities. Real value add can be made for clients in such deals. Successfully concluding such opportunities would act as a differentiator for your reputation.

Don’t forget people even if it may seem they have forgotten you. Make contact for the joy of it not because you want something. Build relationships and be memorable for good reasons. Help others even if there is no immediately obvious benefit to you. If we can all be a positive force in the world, give more than we take, choose to be polite, respectful, creative, innovative, active and encouraging then any network we are part of will thrive.
