What do you do if your boss is resistant to embracing digital learning?

Not everyone is ready to embrace change and technology. It's best to take things slow. Show samples of what "could be". Draft a report explaining the changes and how it helps the organization achieve financial and business goals and provide samples.

Understand your boss's concerns and motivations behind their resistance. Present evidence-based arguments and case studies demonstrating the benefits of digital learning, such as increased productivity, cost savings, and improved employee engagement. Offer to pilot small-scale digital learning initiatives to showcase their effectiveness. Seek allies within the organization who share your vision and can advocate for digital learning. Continuously communicate the value proposition and be open to addressing any concerns or objections your boss may have.

Showcase the numerous benefits of digital learning, such as flexibility, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. Share success stories or case studies that illustrate how digital learning has positively impacted other organizations. By emphasizing the potential advantages, you can help your boss see the value in embracing digital learning as a strategic investment in the company's growth.

A strong evidence shall be presented with a very structured data. The evidence can be from two parts: A. Outside In - Provide examples and evidence that are available from the organisations outside of your company B. Inside Out - Getting any available data that are available within the organization. The data can be small at first, and expand when needed.

Create a report, citing the how, what, where, when and why in detail. Underpin the report by utilising academic resources / research. Propose a project to tackle upskilling.

It gives more ease for learners & organisations to achieve mass level results. Understanding these pain points is key. I then highlight how digital learning can address those issues within our organization, showcasing its potential for significant impact.

I've successfully implemented this approach by proposing a pilot program focused on a specific topic or skill that aligns with our organizational goals. Seeing tangible results from a pilot can help alleviate concerns and build momentum for broader adoption.

Assure your boss that you're committed to supporting the transition to digital learning every step of the way. Share examples of how you've provided support in the past, whether it's by assisting with technology setup, providing training sessions, or offering ongoing guidance and assistance. By demonstrating your readiness to support the process, you can help ease any apprehensions and foster a more positive outlook towards embracing digital learning.
