How can you show you're ready for more responsibility when seeking a promotion?

Actively seeking feedback is not always a guaranteed path to promotion, instead, you should be seeking specific feedback tailored to where you desire to land in your next step. Let's assume you are a Data Analyst and you want to move to a Team Leader role. The first step would be to list all the necessary skills for this position, focusing on areas you need to develop, in this case it could be managerial capabilities. From here, ask your manager help to assess your current skills and identify gaps. Now, you will be able to seek targeted feedback to improve and bridge these gaps, formulating a clear development plan to transition from individual contributor to a managerial role.

It should be a SWOT of oneself in 6-month periods. It is inevitable that he/she asks his/her manager for his/her development in quarterly periods, and that he/she shines more on the good points and focuses on the areas open to improvement. In addition, if they support different sectors, they can also get feedback from the managers or teammates they work with in that sector.

Show your motivation to take on new and different responsibilities. Express yourself abundantly, at the right time, in the right place and in the right way. Don't hesitate to jump into new projects that will challenge and develop you. Take care to be in jobs (team player or leader) that will constantly improve your human relations.

Always always always go above and beyond what your "job title" states. I've heard it a thousand times "that's not in my job title." Unfortunately this is the average and people who are not taking on new challenges and definitely not getting a promotion. You must already be taking on more responsibility than required by your company. And most importantly you must be providing your company a direct benefit from it. This could be a lower bottom line, more clients, more income for them etc. When you can make it crystal clear that you are delivering far more to the company than you are earning, they will pay you more. It's that simple.

To be able to show your contribution to the organization, talk about what you do on every platform you find, in the appropriate language and in the appropriate way. There is a big difference between being modest and showing what you do. Most employees expect to be modest by not showing what they do and they want to be seen by others, but this is a great deception. Realize that everyone has a lot of work. Show your work to people and make sure they get the value they deserve. And don't forget to include those who support you in the process.

Start by highlighting your accomplishments and demonstrating the impact you've had in your current role. Maybe you increased sales by 20% or streamlined a process to save time and resources. Whatever your achievements are, make sure your employer knows about them. Next, share your ideas and vision for how you can bring even more value to the company. This could be through new initiatives, process improvements, or collaborations with other teams. Finally, communicate your desire for more responsibility and demonstrate your willingness to take on new challenges. Show your employer that you're ready to step up and make a bigger impact in your role.

Keep your internal/external network wide. Keep in touch with different managers or people close to the management and senior to you whom you benefit from as mentors. Request mentorship from them. The diversity of relationships is one of your most important leverage on your career path.

Flexibility and adaptability are the two most important skills you need in change. Be able to show that you have these two skills at every opportunity. So they will find you able to cope with any situation. Let others know that you are open to new opportunities.

Strive for a legacy that fosters growth and prosperity, not just a promotion. Responsibility is a uniquely intangible quality that is sensed without the need for explicit articulation. In my experience, the scope of responsibility is boundless, whether in the workplace, personal space, home, with friends, or in unfamiliar surroundings. A responsible individual recognizes no boundaries and is always prepared to contribute. In such cases, it is evident that this approach will pave the way forward. According to the rule of nature, once you've learnt your lessons, this door closes to make room for new opportunities, and this principle applies everywhere not only here. There is no need to seek spotlight because the way you be, light follows you.

Self-belief, constant intrinsic motivation and dedication are the biggest catalysts in this process. Whatever you do, do it with love. :)
