Waco woman who moved to Alaska awaiting payment from Consignment Furniture Showroom

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - KWTX first reporter earlier this week about the Consignment Furniture Showroom in Waco closing with a bankruptcy notice on the front door.

While shoppers looking for a good deal will have to shop somewhere else, customers who resold their items to the store are either awaiting payment for items that sold or their items are simply just locked inside.

Waco native Pat Moran recently moved to Alaska and placed some of her furniture on consignment at the showroom. The items include an electric bed and a leather loveseat.

Back in April, she paid the store $75 to pick these items up, and they did. When Moran moved to Alaska, she learned that some of her items had sold and there was a $277 check waiting for her.

Because she was across the country, she got permission from the store to have a friend come by and pick the check up for her.

“They went by to get the check and when they got there, there was a little green post it note that said, ‘we’re closed,’” Moran says.

Just this week, Moran learned of the bankruptcy and she hasn’t been able to get in touch with anyone since her friend attempted to pick up the check.

“I know that they had a check for me but I’m not able to get a hold of them to get the check,” Moran explains.

Moran has lived in Waco all her life and was fond of the store as both a buyer and a seller.

“I have done business with them before and I have received a check from them,” Moran says. “It was a great place to shop at.”

But those memories are tarnished now as she awaits answers.

“I’d like to have at least the check and they have a lot of furniture that is mind and hasn’t sold and I don’t know what will be done with that. I’d hate for it to just be tossed or something,” Moran explains.

KWTX has reached out to a bankruptcy lawyer to talk more about the legal side of this issue. He is working to get more information about this case before providing that insight.

Also, KWTX made attempts to get in touch with the owners of Consignment Furniture Showroom. We were able to get in contact with an owner listed on the website. When she returned our call, she said she has not worked at the showroom since August 2023.

We are still working to track down who was in charge at the time of the abrupt closing.

This isn’t the only haunting story to have come out of this consignment shop. Almost 20 years ago, KWTX reported on a couch that was bought from this store in 2007 where the purchaser says the couch was haunted.
