ROBINSON, Texas (KWTX) - The Robinson Volunteer Fire Department responded to a grass fire Saturday morning off I-35 Northbound between Sun Valley Blvd. and Moonlight Dr.

The Robinson Volunteer Fire Department tells KWTX that the grass fire was about 100 yards by 30 yards. The department responded around 9:20 a.m. and was able to extinguish the fire within about 15 minutes. The scene was cleared by 10 a.m.

In a Facebook post Saturday morning around 10 a.m., the department shared a photo showing heavy smoke and charred grass off the interstate.

The post stated a reminder that dry, hot conditions combined with hot ignition could result in a grass fire.

It shared the following tips for drivers:

  • Make sure you’re not dragging chains or metal
  • Do not throw cigarette butts out of the window
  • Avoid rocks when mowing
  • Don’t park vehicles over tall, dry grass areas
  • Don’t leave campfires, grills, or firepits unattended.
