COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - Texas A&M baseball is coming off it’s best season in program history.

One of the players that made this team so special is transfer Hayden Schott. He was vocal about the hiring of Michael Earley and Schott is getting a second season at A&M for his final year of eligibility.

Schott served mainly in the designated hitter role for the Aggies. In his first season with the maroon and white, he started in 68 games generating 88 hits with eight home runs, 63 RBI and 15 doubles.

He had a season high four hits against Oregon in the super regional.

Hayden also earned the Marion Pugh Spirit Award this off season which is given to the player who is the most instrumental to team unity and provides leadership on and off the field.

“Hayden was at the right spot at the right time,” Paul Schott, Hayden’s father said. “The whole Aggie family and SEC family.. it’s a new experience for us and you have your high expectations and this has far exceeded anything that we could possibly dream of and I know Hayden (too). Just the coaches, the teammates, the families, the families kids.. just peripheral come up to us and just congratulate us and say what a blessing it is to have Hayden here no no no it’s a blessing to us, so it’s been over the moon, and we could not have asked for anything more.”

Schott had the team’s highest batting average with a .335. That puts him 14th overall in the SEC.
