COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - After starting an acapella group two years ago, College Station High School students are hoping to hone their skills in the Big Apple.

The group known as “Purple Reign” was personally invited by acapella legend Deke Sharon to participate in a clinic in New York.

College Station High School’s acapella group started as an after-school activity and then turned into an elective after growing in popularity.

Purple Reign member Chloe Nomand says going to New York after only being established for a few years is an exciting opportunity.

this is our third year being a group, our first. we had like an hour once a week after school because we didn’t have an official class. But then last year we finally got a class period and so we were able to have a full few hours together. This is a really big deal for us because once we’re a new group.

College Station High School is hoping to send 17 students from the acapella group to New York in April 2025.

The funds that are collected will cover expenses for the trip including airfare and food.
