WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A local nonprofit that helps families of first responders killed in the line of duty is looking to grow.

The McLennan 100 Club has been in existence now for 13 years and has about 150 members, but the more members the better work they can do.

“I feel like this is a very, very good cause. You think about different nonprofits and to me this is one of the top five there is to be able to help out,” said President Link Harris.

The club raises funds to help pay funeral expenses, relieve mortgage or other debt, and cover educational expenses for the family of first responders killed in the line of duty.

They’ve also helped those injured in the line of duty in the past.

The club purchases insurance policies which allow it to help families with immediate needs.

“God forbid if one or more first responders are killed in the line of duty, we have an insurance policy that will immediately pay that family members $35,000. This will help pay the car payment bills still coming, house payment, electricity bills, and we can immediately pay this in order to help them out and breach some time for them to get their loved one’s lives back in order,” Harris said.

The 100 club receives no government support, are non-political and entirely volunteer driven.

You can join for $100 a year or $500 for a corporate sponsorship. There are also $1,000 and $10,000 membership opportunities.
