WACO, Texas (KWTX) - The Salvation Army in Waco’s newest officers Major Jeffrey and Captain Tammy Miracle officially assumed their new positions on Monday, June 24.

This comes as Major James Taylor, who had led the Waco chapter of the Salvation Army since 2018, retired last month.

The couple first commissioned as officers for the Salvation Army back in 1990 and have served in several different locations since then, most recently Freeport.

Major Miracle said they are trying to learn as much as they can right now in order to meet the needs of the Waco community.

“Right now I am acting like a sponge, I am going around and soaking all the information I can to make sure the Salvation Army is doing what we need to do to meet the needs of this community,” Major Miracle said. “My overall goal, of course, is to make our new building”

Plans are currently in the works for a new Salvation Army facility in Waco. The timeline for the facility is around two years.

The Miracles have already hit the ground running serving the Waco community. With temperatures officially in the triple digits, the community kitchen is now operating as a cooling center.

“We are a cooling station right now,” Major Miracle said. “When the temperatures are up over 100 degrees we open our doors during the day when we are normally closed so that anyone can come in and enjoy the cool air and have some water.”

The Salvation Army is currently seeking donations of bottled water. Donations can be dropped off at the Salvation Army Community Kitchen and Shelter located at 300 Webster Ave.
