BELTON, Texas (KWTX) - Belton Area Chamber of Commerce President Randy Pittenger is encouraging anyone planning to attend the July 4th parade to plan ahead for the Texas heat.

The parade will start at 9 a.m. for the second consecutive year, an hour earlier than normal.

“What we encourage everyone to do is to drink plenty of fluid, wear a hat, find shade, use that. Take all the normal precautions that you would with heat,” Pittenger said.

In an unprecedented move last year, the city of Belton moved up the parade’s start time by an hour, from 10 a.m. to 9 a.m.

“And it was so well received and it made a really significant difference for both our participants and spectators that we’ve continued that this year so we’re gonna start at 9 o’clock,” Pittenger said.

Despite the heat, Pittenger is confident of a large turnout to the parade.

“We always have a big crowd,” Pittenger said. “We expect there will be a big crowd. And Texans are used to heat. It’s July in Texas. So we know it’s gonna be hot. Everybody understands that’s part of it.”

The Belton July 4th parade will be broadcast live on television. You can also stream it live on KWTX.com, the KWTX News 10 app, the KWTX News 10 Facebook page, and the KWTX YouTube page.
