Motorcyclist killed after colliding with cargo van, Killeen police say

KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) - Police are investigating a deadly collision that claimed the life of a 39-year-old motorcyclist at Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. and Hackberry Drive.
At approximately 11:36 p.m. on June 30, officers were dispatched to the intersection to investigate the deadly collision.
A preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a 2014 GMC cargo van was traveling southbound on MLK and was turning left onto Hackberry Drive.
At that same time, a motorcyclist riding a 2017 Suzuki motorcycle with a passenger was traveling northbound on MLK.
Police said the motorcyclist struck the cargo van at a “very high rate of speed” and succumbed to his injuries.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Nicola James at 11:51 p.m.
The passenger riding in the motorcycle, a 27-year-old man, was transported via ambulance to a hospital in critical condition.
According to DPS, the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and the passenger was wearing a helmet.
