WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Being a parent of an athlete comes with challenges. That’s why two former Baylor football moms wrote a book to help guide parents through the rewarding and tough moments.

It’s called a football mom’s playbook. It’s a how-to and what-to-do book for parents of athletes written by Sheila Henderson and Dr. Rhonda Sneed, two women who met at Baylor.

Henderson’s son Tyler and Sneed’s son RJ both entered the Baylor football program in 2017.

“We were brand new. Didn’t know where anything was. I saw Rhonda and a group of ladies. Rhonda said we’re a prayer group. I grabbed her hand, we held hands, have never let go since,” explained Henderson.

Dr. Sneed prayed with a group of moms throughout RJ’s high school football career and wanted to carry it to Baylor.

“We started out small, but by the time we finished we were at the Sugar Bowl in Louisiana praying with people who didn’t have a kid on either team,” said Sneed.

Back in 2017, Baylor went 1-11 on RJ and Tyler’s way out of Waco, Baylor won the Big 12 and a Sugar Bowl Championship. These moms went through that roller-coaster with their boys, and when reflecting they decided they should share how they made it through.

The book details how to be moms of prayer and gives daily devotionals.

“This book is something that in its simplicity, it speaks volumes. If it’s not about sports, it’s about life,” said Sneed.

The duo is working on another book and will soon be launching a podcast.
