BROOKLYN, New York (KWTX) -The Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Ja’Kobe Walter, is on his way to the NBA after he was selected No. 19 overall by the Toronto Raptors in the first round of Wednesday night’s NBA Draft.

Walter was Baylor’s leading scorer this past season, averaging 14.5 points per game backed behind a team-high 75 made 3-pointers. Originally hailing from McKinney, Texas, Walter came to Baylor as a five-star recruit and a McDonald’s All-American.

Walter becomes the 13th player selected in the draft under Scott Drew and the fourth consecutive Baylor Bear taken in the first round. Baylor’s three previous first rounders include Davion Mitchell (No. 9 overall in 2021), Jeremy Sochan (No. 9 overall in 2022), and Keyonte George (No. 16 overall in 2023).

The 19-year-old will join a Toronto Raptors team that turned in a 25-57 overall record, missing the playoffs.
