WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A Waco woman was arrested for driving nearly three times over the legal BAC limit while having four young children in the vehicle with her, an affidavit alleges.

Jamelia Tiller, 23, is charged with DWI with a child under 15 years old.

On June 21, police were patrolling near Towne Oaks Drive and Sanger Avenue when they noticed a vehicle stop at a redlight nearly completely past the stop line and in the intersection, an affidavit states.

Once the light turned green, the affidavit states the vehicle remained stopped for several seconds before turning eastbound onto Sanger Avenue where the vehicle again failed to stop at the traffic signals stop line at the intersection of Sanger Avenue and North Valley Mills Drive.

Police initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 4600 block of Sanger Avenue and made contact with the driver, identified as Tiller.

After making contact with Tiller, the affidavit states police noticed an odor associated with alcohol coming from the vehicle and four children, three of which were unsecured in the back seat.

Additionally, police said Tiller’s eyes were glassy, she slurred her speech, struggled with motor skills when attempting to find her license and several times answered the wrong question that police asked, according to the affidavit.

Police asked where Tiller was going, and she said to the 5100 block of Sanger, the affidavit states. Police noticed Tiller had turned the wrong way on Sanger Avenue and was driving away from this location.

Tiller was asked to step out of the vehicle and police conducted a DWI investigation, according to the affidavit.

Police, according to the affidavit, noticed an odor commonly associated with alcohol followed Tiller out of the vehicle and she struggled to maintain balance while walking and standing.

Police conducted more test as part of their DWI investigation and determined she was intoxicated while driving, the affidavit alleges.

Once at the jail, the affidavit states Tiller consented to provide breath samples and results showed her BAC levels were at 0.225 and 0.212, nearly three times over the legal limit of 0.08.

Tiller was booked into the McLennan County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
