WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A Waco man was arrested after choking his girlfriend three times while she was attempting to leave his house, an affidavit alleges.

Giovanni Arcibar, 26, is charged with assault strangulation, a third-degree felony.

On June 18, police were sent to the 3500 block of Ferndale Drive on reports that a woman was knocking on their neighbor’s door.

When police arrived, they spoke with the woman, identified as Arcibar’s girlfriend, who said she left Arcibar’s house in the 2100 block of Baylor Avenue after he assaulted her, the affidavit states.

The girlfriend said she was knocking on the neighbor’s door because she was scared Arcibar may have followed her.

After police calmed her down, the girlfriend said she was at Arcibar’s house when he became upset because his mom doesn’t allow the girlfriend to be there due to the arguing, according to the affidavit.

While at the house, the girlfriend said she attempted to grab her blanket and she knocked over a box fan, making a loud noise.

Arcibar became upset at this and grabbed his girlfriend by the neck, pushing her against the wall, the affidavit alleges.

After choking her the first time, Arcibar told his girlfriend she needed to take her stuff and leave.

While she was gathering her stuff, the affidavit states Arcibar grabbed his girlfriend by the neck, pushed her down and started choking her a second time.

Once the girlfriend got up, the affidavit states Arcibar began choking her a third time.

The girlfriend said while she was being choked the third time she screamed, prompting Arcibar’s mom to come in and Arcibar to stop choking his girlfriend, according to the affidavit.

Police spoke with Arcibar at his house where he admitted it got physical with his girlfriend but claimed it became physical after she slapped him in the face, the affidavit states.

According to the affidavit police observed red marks around the girlfriend’s neck, leading them to believe she was choked.

Additionally, the affidavit states Arcibar and his girlfriend were very intoxicated during the incident.

Arcibar was subsequently arrested and is being held in the McLennan County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
