OMAHA, Nebraska (KBTX) - The Texas A&M baseball team is resting as they gear up for the College World Series final starting on Saturday.

With plenty of Texas talent on the team, one player from the Brazos Valley is making his mark on the Aggies.

From the town of Brenham with less than 20,000 people to the bright lights of the College World Series Evan Aschenbeck is proving he can shine no matter the stage.

Aschenbeck is in his second season with the Aggies. Before that he played for the Cubs in high school and spent two seasons at Blinn College.

Evan was awarded for his performance on the mound this season by being named the nation’s Stopper of the Year.

He’s already had to relief appearances in Omaha and has struck out five in five innings.

“Our experience has been unbelievable,” Paul Aschenbeck, Evan’s father said. “It’s been a dream come true for us and our family to get Evan here. He came in 2009 when he was little bitty kid here, so just to come back here and see him on the field we’re excited about that and the emotions about that.”

His parents add it’s a blessing that Evan is at A&M because it’s only 45 minutes from home so his extended family can watch him too.
