WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Some Central Texas kids turned to an age-old tradition to raise money for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital – a lemonade stand.

Stella Myatt, 8, and her first cousins Charlotte Myatt, 6, and Copeland Myatt, 4, put up the stand in the yard of their grandparents’ home near Ridgewood Country Club in Waco.

“Today I did a lemonade stand, and it went very well and I had a little help with my grandma and I had a little help from my cousins, too, Charlotte and Copeland Myatt,” Stella said.

Stella said she’d always wanted to help the hospital that helps kids fight cancer.

“I’ve always wanted to raise money for them,” Stella said. “Because they help kids with cancer.”

The kids grandparents, Kathy and Steve Myatt, bought the kids the lemonade stand and helped set it up.

The kids opened the stand around 9 a.m. and finished after 3 p.m.

They sold a glass of lemonade for $2.50. They also had candy bars, trail mix, crackers and cold towels.

Many of the customers were golfers as the grandparent’s home is right off one of the course’s tee boxes.

By lunchtime, the kids had collected over $200 and when the stand closed, they’d raised well over $300.

One customer even gave $50 for four cups of lemonade.

Friends who heard about the kids’ efforts after it closed dropped off additional donations, bringing the total amount to $400.

Stella’s mom, Cherise, says they plan to donate the money to the Memphis hospital this week.

All three kids attend Saint Paul’s Episcopal Day School in Waco.
