Aggies advance in College World Series with convincing win over Kentucky

OMAHA, Nebraska (KBTX) - Starting pitcher Ryan Prager gave up his first hit in the seventh inning as Texas A&M shut out Kentucky 5-1 in the winner’s bracket of the College World Series Monday night.

Prager pitched 6.2 innings with 4 strikeouts giving up 2 hits, 1 walk, and no runs.

The Aggies’ offense came to life in the sixth inning, scoring all five runs. Hayden Schott had a 2 RBI single to start the scoring. Ali Camarillo followed that up with an RBI double, and Kaeden Kent hit a 2 RBI single.

Jace LaViolette tweaked his leg in the sixth inning and eventually had to get taken out of the lineup and replaced by Jack Bell.

Josh Stewart came on relief of Prager pitching 3.1 innings. He got strike outs to end the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings. He finished with 3 strikeouts. As a team the Aggies struck out 7 allowing four hits. Stewart gave up a solo homerun to Ryan Nicholson in the 9th for the only run that Kentucky would score.

The Wildcats will take on Florida on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in an elimination game.

Texas A&M will take on the winner of the Kentucky-Florida game on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. with a chance to advance to its first-ever Men’s College World Series final.
