AUSTIN, Texas (KWTX) - Changes are coming to the playoff format for a handful of sports.
On Tuesday, the University Interscholastic League Legislative Council passed an amendment for split divisions in the postseason for volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball and baseball.
The sports listed above will now follow the current 6A football championship structure.
Districts will remain the same and the top four teams will continue to make the postseason. From there, teams will be assigned to divisions based on enrollment. The two teams with larger enrollment will be placed to a Division I postseason bracket, and the smaller two teams will head to Division II brackets.
The amendment would go into effect on August 1, 2024, if approved by the Commissioner of Education.
