WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A Central Texas musician who has helped countless people by playing music at fundraisers is now being shown the generosity of others as his son is in dire need of a new liver.

A fundraiser will be held Sunday for Bryce Brown, the son of Sloppy Joe Band frontman Brian Brown.

Bryce, 37, a married father of three daughters, was diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, which is a genetic condition that raises your risk for lung and other diseases.

“He’s a great kid and a great dad,” Brian said.

While medical staff made suggestions and insurance approved the liver transplant, Bryce is still waiting on a compatible donor.

Bryce’s family says the process, which will include a lifetime of care, will come with a huge price tag.

“It’s easily a million-dollar process,” Brian said.

Brian says he’s not one to ask for help, so he was taken back with friends and family started reaching out to organize something on his Bryce’s behalf.

“He’s prideful like me,” Brian said. “He doesn’t like to ask for help, but once he found out the cost of it, he was like “yeah dad, if y’all want to put together something.”

Christy Barton is a family member of the Browns and said she never hesitated to jump in and help.

“We’re family and that’s what you do for people you love,” Christy said.

“I love them,” Bryan said when talking about those helping plan the benefit. “It’s just been a great team effort and Bryce is very appreciative of it as is the whole family.”
