GATESVILLE, Texas (KWTX) - The largest gathering of Cybertrucks in the world happened in Central Texas over the weekend, resulting in quite a scene as the futuristic electric trucks caravanned down the interstate and the backroads outside of Temple.

The Tesla Owners Club of Austin hosted the event called the Cybertruck Rodeo at the Domo Dove Nest Motorsports Club of Central Texas in Gatesville on Sunday, bringing nearly 50 Tesla trucks to town.

DOMO is a 400-acre motorsports club and resort community which sits adjacent to McGregor, where Elon Musk’s SpaceX rocket testing facility is located.

Toan Leung is the owner.

“Our goal at DOMO is to bring car enthusiasts and motorsports fans together to share our passion and celebrate our lives,” Leung said. “We are very happy to bring more fun activities to Gatesville and represent our community well.”

The Cybertruck owners first met at the Buc-ee’s in Temple, which has 48 Superchargers available. The group charged up and traveled down Highway 36 to Gatesville.

Matt Holm is the founder of the Tesla Owners Club of Austin and helped organize the event.

He said the location was the perfect spot.

“We did off road trails. We did a dirt track where we just did donuts. We had the best time, great, great turnout,” Holm said.

Organizers say this was the largest gathering of Cybertrucks to date as the trucks are slowly rolling out to the public since their debut in November of 2019.

Holm believes he was one of the first to order the truck in 2019 and he received his shiny new pickup four months ago.

“I was at the event at Los Angeles in Hawthorne when the Cybertruck was unveiled and my business partner, Anuarbek Imanbaev, who runs the club with me, said I was the first person to order,” Holm said. “Everyone else was looking at it as it came out, making fun of the shape and saying we were being trolled and Elon had a real truck behind it, and I was like, ‘no I want the Mars Rover that ate the Hummer.”

Imanbaev is the VP of the Tesla Owners Club in Austin.

He said the group was thrilled with the effort many made to come to the first Cybertruck Rodeo.

“Mostly from Texas,” Imanbaev said. “Some came from as far as Miami, Philadelphia and New York.”

The Tesla Owners Club of Austin will hold their next event June 13th but have not selected a location in Austin yet.

They say you do not have to own a Tesla to come to the events.
