TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - A house on Allen Drive in Tyler was left split in two after Monday’s sever weather caused a tree to fall on the home.

“Well, my first reaction is that of, ‘wow, there’s a lot of, a lot of damage,’” said neighbor Andrew Bugg. “I haven’t heard of many people being hurt, so that’s a sign of good - well, to me I’m grateful for that.”

The family of the homeowner said she was not home at the time when the tree fell. They also said an adjustor will be coming on Friday to assess the damage.

Bugg said the incident could be a sign that the community needs to assess and take care of the big, historic trees.

“While we love our trees, and we’re so grateful to have the shade and the beauty of them, just realize, as they get older, kind of like when people get older, they get fragile, and therefore they require a little more special care,” he said.

The root ball of the tree on the house is roughly 10 feet tall and 10 feet wide.
