Austin police need help identifying suspect in kidnapping, sexual assault of child

AUSTIN, Texas (KWTX) - The Austin Police Department (APD) Human Trafficking Unit is asking the public for help identifying a suspect in a case involving child trafficking and sexual assault.

At around 6 a.m. on Aug. 2, 2023, the suspect abducted a child from the St. John’s neighborhood between Duval Street and I-35, police said.

The suspect then took the child to an unknown motel and sexually assaulted the child, police allege.

According to police, the victim described the motel as a yellow building with a “motel” sign, surrounded by trees, and two floors of stairs on the outside of the building.

Austin police described the suspect as:

  • Hispanic male
  • Honduran or El Salvadorian
  • Late 30s or possibly older
  • Goes by “Alex”
  • Chest and arm tattoos
  • Spanish speaking
  • Drives a dark pickup
  • Last seen wearing orange and blue “Looney Tunes” tank top
