Restaurant Report Card for Central Texas: 5.16.24

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Here’s this week’s restaurant report card for Central Texas:

P.F. Chang’s at 5511 Crosslake Parkway in Waco failed a recent inspection with a 73.

According to the food safety worker, some raw chicken, salmon and cut strawberries were not kept at the right temperature.

The strawberries were thrown out.

Condensation in the cooler was dripping into the food below, especially on the chili paste.

An employee failed to wash their hands properly after handling raw meat, and one was tasting food with their bare fingers.

There was old food debris on clean items, and soiled and damp wiping cloths on the food prep surfaces.

There was standing water in several areas of the flooring in the kitchen.

Because of the repeat violations, the restaurant had to pay a fine and be reinspected.

Baked Bliss Bakery LLC at 1114 North 15th Street in Waco failed a renewal inspection with an 85.

According to the food safety worker, several items in the reach-in cooler were not cool enough, the salad dressing, feta cheese and sandwich dressing.

Containers of dressings prepared at the facility and stored in that cooler exceeded their used by dates.

All of that was thrown out.

A bowl of cut tomatoes had mold growing on it.

Two employees did not have their food handler’s cards.

This place needed reinspection.

Crumbl Cookies at 2444 West Loop 340 failed a renewal inspection with a 90.

According to the food safety worker, there were 10 cases of salted butter sitting at room temperature since the previous day.

They should have been refrigerated according to food regulations.

So, they were thrown out immediately, along with some heavily dented cans.

There was no certified food manager at the facility during the inspection.

All of these facilities needed reinspection’s.

And this week’s Clean Plate award winner is Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers at 4212 Franklin Avenue in Waco.

This spot holds a special place in the tummies of many.

Many customers said they love the chicken and dipping sauce.

Another said the staff is very welcoming and the chicken is reasonably priced.

And how about that Texas toast?
