Restaurant Report Card for Central Texas: 5.9.24

(KWTX) - Here’s this week’s restaurant report card for Central Texas:

Fish City Grill at 5401 Crosslake Parkway in Waco failed a renewal inspection with an 81.

According to the food safety worker, raw oysters at the line were not kept at the right temperature.

There was a case of moldy tomatoes in the walk-in cooler.

They were thrown out.

There was old food debris on the clean equipment and the utensils.

An employee was wiping a knife with a soiled wiping cloth.

It should have been clean.

There was an improperly labeled spray bottle with yellow liquid.

The business needed to thoroughly clean.

This place needed a reinspection.

Cracker Barrell at 221 Enterprise Boulevard in Hewitt failed a renewal inspection with an 81.

According to the food safety worker, cooked meat loaf, bags of gravy, and chicken pot pie in the walk-in cooler exceeded the use-by-dates.

Those items were thrown out.

The business needed to clean and maintain the ice machine.

It had slime on it.

There was a sanitizer bucket without the correct amount of sanitizer.

And old food debris dried up on the clean utensils.

Also, an employee was opening raw shell eggs and wiping their hands-on their apron, and then handling the tableware.

This place needed a re-inspection.

Tipsy Lion Bar & Grill 128 North Main Street in West failed a renewal inspection with an 82.

According to the food safety worker, the reach-in cooler had some sliced tomatoes, beef patties, and chicken that were not kept at the right temperature.

The mop sink hot water faucet was broken.

There were flying insects throughout several areas and the kitchen needed to be cleaned because of grease and dust.

This place needed a reinspection.

And this week’s Clean Plate award goes to Waco Ale Company at 806 Austin Avenue in Waco.

Obviously, you can get a number of different types of ale here, but let’s focus on the food.

There are daily specials such as the Classic Burger and Fries, 12 Bone-in Wings, Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich and Fries, all with a pint.

How about the garlic fries, beer battered mushrooms, and fish-and-chips?

If you want the beer, there are all types with hints of fruit, dark chocolate, caramel, and honey.
