VALLEY MILLS, Texas (KWTX) - Youth baseball and softball players will get a chance to “play ball,” despite their fields being underwater from weekend flooding, thanks to the generosity of surrounding youth leagues which have offered up their fields for games.

The Valley Mills complex, which includes one softball field and two baseball/softball fields, was covered in water which measured five feet and rose to the top of fences after storms.

Some of the worst damage was done to the group’s concession stand.

Meredith Speer is the league’s technical director and says the leagues who have reached out to help include Crawford, Moody, Meridian, Bosqueville, West, Clifton, and Whitney.

“We have been contacted by multiple local leagues offering their fields for use for our games,” Speer said. “The support from our local communities has been overwhelming, and we so appreciate all the support we get helping our kids continue to play ball this season.”

Speer says the Brazos Valley League also reached out to help them fundraise for repairs.

All Valley Mills games were canceled Monday and Tuesday, but the organization is hoping to play games Wednesday at Valley Mills High School’s softball field.

After that, they plan to utilize the generous offering of the surrounding leagues to use their fields.

The Valley Mills Baseball Association’s season started April 1 and ends June 7 for girls and June 14 for boys.
