WACO, Texas (KWTX) - The race director for the upcoming IRONMAN 70.3 Waco in October completed her 22nd full IRONMAN, 13th IRONMAN Texas and 195th full marathon over the weekend in The Woodlands.

Nancy Goodnight, 57, is the only female who has completed every IRONMAN Texas since it started in 2011.

“It’s like a really bad game of survivor, only you don’t win $10,000, you probably spend it,” Goodnight joked.

Goodnight joined 3,000 other participants in the IRONMAN Texas race for the 2.4-mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 full marathon on Saturday.

Only eight participants, including Nancy, started the race Saturday who have participated all 13 years at IRONMAN Texas. The veterans included seven men and Nancy, but by the finish line, only five men remained with three not completing the course.

Nancy admits it was her toughest race to date calling the conditions “miserable.”

“It was a super tough day,” she said. “It really took about everything I had to finish it. The wind and the heat just got to me, and it was tough, but I made it through.”

Nancy says its an honor carrying a torch for women in a field dominated by males.

“Only 18 percent of the field was female, which is not uncommon in my sport, unfortunately,” Nancy said. “I think about ‘how can I engage more women in my sport?’ I know it can be intimidating, but when you start doing it, it’s such a sisterhood.”

IRONMAN 70.3 Waco will take place October 6.
