WACO, Texas (KWTX) - More than a dozen local high school girls enjoyed the prom of their dreams Saturday night thanks to a local tailor who customized prom dresses.

Roxana Robles, owner of Couture Tailoring by Roxana Robles in Waco, collected dresses and tailored them to the vision of 15 girls at University High School, most which have never attended prom due to costs.

“It was great,” Roxana said.

Roxana started collecting dresses last year after her daughter transferred from Vanguard College Preparatory School to University High School and told her mom how many at University couldn’t afford a dress for the big day.

“I noticed there were several girls that needed dresses and she said, ‘yes, mommy some of the girls don’t get to go to prom because they don’t have a dress,’” Roxana said. “So, I was like, ‘I want to help.’”

Roxana created Dream Couture Waco, which raises money and collects dresses year-round to help at prom.

Roxana then brings in girls who may not be able to afford prom, otherwise, and customizes the dresses to exactly what the girls want.

Some dresses were altered from long to short or sleeves to sleeveless.

Mary Olivarez, the parent and community involvement specialist at University High, helped line up girls in need of a gown.

“It’s such an amazing blessing that the girls can just come pick out a beautiful and amazing dress. A lot of them are brand new dresses,” Olivarez told KWTX.

The girls met Saturday at 360 Solutions on Austin Avenue to get ready, where Roxana also offices.

Nearly a dozen hair stylists and makeup artists were on hand to help.

“We had around 12 between makeup and hair artist,” Roxana said. “Some of the girls were doing hair and some were having makeup done and some were having breakfast.”

Lolita’s Restaurante provided breakfast for the girls, and Maria Mezcaleria provided a nice sit-down dinner for the group. Wolfe Florist helped provided corsages and Reflections of Waco assembled a beautiful balloon backdrop for pictures.

Roxana is catching her breath after a very busy weekend, but soon to be right back at work.

She’s putting the finishing touches on gowns for 15 more girls who will attend Waco High School’s prom on May 4th.
