WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A high school student had a senior prom she’ll never forget, and neither will her younger female cousin with disabilities, after the 18-year-old invited the younger cousin to be her prom date.

Macey McAdams said she knew since junior high school she wanted to take her younger cousin, Klaire Grochowski, who was born premature at 25 weeks and has faced a lifetime of challenges, to her senior prom at Bosqueville High School.

Macey had Cerebral palsy, has cognitive delays and is known to her family as “a miracle child.”

“I’ve been planning this since I was in middle school and so I’m honored to finally take her,” Macey said. “It’s a really special moment.”

Macey surprised Klaire at her 16th birthday party in February with the prom ask by giving her a cookie cake that had “Prom?” written in icing on it.

Klaire was thrilled from the get-go, her mom Kim said.

“Macey is a remarkable young lady who chose to share her senior prom with her cousin, Klaire, who has always looked up to her,” Kim said.

The girls got their hair done together. They took pictures at Cameron Park and ate dinner at Bubba’s 33.

Once they got to Knox Hall at the Texas Rangers Museum where the prom was held, they smiled, laughed, and danced the night away with friends, many which are mutual since girls attend Bosqueville High School.

Macey said it was everything she’d ever dreamed of and more.

“It was amazing. Klaire and I had a lot of fun. We laughed and danced all night. I knew I wanted to take her to my senior prom since middle school,” Macey said. “I couldn’t think of anyone else I would like to experience this moment with before I graduate. I love her so much.”

Klaire has never let her disabilities get in the way of living a big life.

She is also a member of the Varsity cheer squad at Bosqueville High School.

Kim said she’s thankful for the love from her family and her friends.

“The kindness and affection shown to my daughter is overwhelming,” Kim said. “Klaire is living her best life, all due to her family’s unwavering support and the love and care shown by her classmates and teachers are BISD.”
