BELTON, Texas (KWTX) - Hotels and Air BNB’s aren’t the only placed booked up ahead of the total solar eclipse, those who have a home on wheels are on the move to our area too.

It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that is bringing in a once-in-a-lifetime crowd, manager Tammy Lytle of Basin RV Resort in Belton says they have been booked out for months with at least 150 people on the waiting list.

“We’ve got people from Canada, California, Washington. We’ve turned away hundreds of people and I hate doing it but my park is only so big,” Lytle says.

Just off I-35 in Belton, newly opened Gather Campgrounds says the timing of the eclipse and their grand opening couldn’t be more perfect.

“Definitely helping us launch. We opened on February first and to have this type of event coming right after allowed us to get our team in place. So it has been giving us a boost in occupancy and exposure,” says owner of Gather Campgrounds, Garrett Weber-Gale.

Both resorts say they have been preparing and organizing their day of celebrations for several months.

“We’re doing breakfast for our guests the morning of, we’ll do a champagne toast during the eclipse, we’ll have lawn games,” Weber-Gale says.

“We will have pizza catered, with desserts and drinks and just have a good time. We’ve got glasses and souvenirs,” Lytle says.

While many people have booked hotels and will find themselves on the road Monday, owners of these establishments are capitalizing off of their unique, one-stop shop experience.

“They can relax and enjoy themselves and not get involved in the crazy amount of people traveling up and around I-35,” Weber-Gale explains.

Other RV Parks booked up across our area include Bellvue RV Resort in Temple and Deer Crossing RV Park in Waco.
