CHINA SPRING, Texas (KWTX) - The staff at China Spring ISD is excited to get their students involved in the total solar eclipse on April 8th.

Teachers are preparing different tools for their students to understand the eclipse and the science behind it.

Kristen Dutschmann, who is the Executive Director for Curriculum and Information Assessment for China Spring, says that they “want kids to know what the eclipse is and have some hands-on activities.”

Dutschmann believes having their district opens allows them to Include every student in their district in the experience safely.

She explains how the district wants to provide glasses for every student present, so that they can all view the eclipse with proper protection.

While safety measures and traffic are a big concern for parents, Dutschmann says that they are prepared for emergencies.

“We’ve attended meetings as well as workshops as well as read everything online from city safety officials and county, and we have really tried to make plans, because student safety is obviously paramount.”

China Spring ISD will be open on April 8th and Rogers ISD is also expected to be open for the eclipse.
