WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Bishop Reicher senior Daylan Gonzales’ number one passion is the game of baseball.

“I’ve always loved baseball,” said Gonzales. “I’ve always loved watching the Texas Rangers play. As a kid going up to Arlington, watching them, still going up and watching them.”

He’s an all-district infielder at Reicher and a leader on the team. His head head, Jaylon Ross, says Daylan makes his job easier.

“I’ve been very lucky to coach an athlete like Daylan,” said Ross. “He’s very mature, you could say, for what the average teenager would be. Everyone makes mistakes, but he tends to learn from his mistakes faster. He kind of already had his head on a swivel of what he wanted to do in life, and the life of the path of Christ as well that he wanted to walk.”

Though, Daylan really shines in the classroom. He has a 4.0 GPA and he’s ranked fourth in his class. He’s also one of the best math students in the entire school.

“Daylan is very intelligent, you know, as intelligent as they come,” said Ross. “People don’t realize, you know, just because someone is smart, they don’t have to work hard. Well, I know for example, his teachers say he is constantly working, not just on the baseball field, but academically as well.”

Daylan is Baylor bound next fall, where he’ll combine his love for baseball and statistics in the S3E program. He has aspirations to one day work in the MLB.

“The hope, the dream job, would be statistical analysis for the Texas Rangers for sure,” said Gonzales. “I love baseball, and combining math and baseball, I mean that would be the dream job for sure. I usually keep a little stat book at home, mostly on the Rangers.”

Congratulations to Bishop Reicher’s Daylan Gonzales, you’re a Classroom Champion!
