WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN) volunteers from across the county teamed up with Central Texans in Killeen to build care packages for families who are new to Fort Cavazos.

The organization says that on average military families have to relocate every two and a half years.

With every move, comes out of pocket expenses that you can’t always account for ahead of time.

To combat those expenses MFAN filled each of their 150 boxes with around $150 worth of household items ranging from traditional items like canned goods, to less traditional items.

“We talk to our stakeholders and say ‘what are the things you need most,’” said Shannon Razsadin, the Military Family Advisory Network’s Executive Director.

“So it’s everything from olive oil and spices, to tin foil, cleaning supplies, sponges,” said Razsadin.

“Things also like a simple game for kids to play. When you’re waiting for your household goods to arrive, it can be really difficult to fill that time.”

Each item is placed in a box to make the recipient family’s transition as easy as possible.

“We built this care package in an effort, one, to make people’s moves a little bit easier, but two to free up people’s budgets,” said Razsadin.

“Every time you move there are out of pocket expenses that people have to dig deep to figure out how to cover,” she added.

As long as the boxes are in supply they will be available to families who are new to Fort Cavazos completely free of charge.
