ALOHA Ore. (KPTV) - The hot weather is proving to be a challenge for produce stands, as one Aloha market started seeing produce rot on the spot.

185th Produce is keeping a tally board against the sun. A point for the sun any time a product is lost to the heat, and a point for the store when it doesn’t have to close early.

Abnormally high amounts of smog forced an air quality warning into effect Monday, and agencies are warning people to take extra care while outdoors.

So far, the heatwave claimed cherries, zucchini, an entire box of plantains and burst tomatoes.

“We have to keep our awnings up all the time to try to keep the sun off of stuff,” employee Mads Schreiter said. “It’s just a hurricane of heat coming through these doors. Then outside with all of our big bins, we have to follow the sun and move everything, keep it in the shadow as often as we can.”

The store has been posting updates on its tally board on Facebook.
