GOVERNMENT CAMP Ore. (KPTV) - Portlanders are looking to escape the nearly triple-digit heat on Monday by heading to Mount Hood.

Mt. Hood Meadows opened their doors for the summer on Friday. They offer, scenic chair rides, hiking, games on the deck, live music, ultramarathons, overnight RV camping, food and beverages, barbecues, nighttime outdoor movies, and summer camps.

With temperatures reaching triple digits in Portland, families are escaping the heat wave by going to the coast for the holiday weekend.

But not too far away is Trilium Lake. Marina lives in Portland and wanted to use her day off to go paddle boarding with her dog Stroodle.

“The first time we came here and we really liked it. It felt really nice and safe, especially for just paddle boarding so we thought it would be a good idea to come back out and revisit just to get some practice in,” she said.

However, it was the first time at Trillium Lake for Vicki and her two daughters who normally have some fun on the Willamette River. She says she and her family spent the weekend indoors with an air conditioning but on Monday, it was time to hit the water. She says she chose Trilium Lake because it’s not as treacherous as oceans or rivers.

“We ski up here [Mt. Hood] in the winter, but I knew they didn’t have motorized boats. I knew it was flatwater, not a lot of wind so that all felt very safe.”

There are no lifeguards looking out, so make sure to take a buddy and wear a life jacket.
