People seek relief from Portland heat wave at Oregon coast

With temperatures reaching triple digits in Portland, families are escaping the heat wave by going to the coast for the holiday weekend.

CANNON BEACH, Ore. (KPTV) With temperatures reaching triple digits in Portland, families are escaping the heat wave by going to the coast for the holiday weekend. Cannon beach is filled with people trying to make the most of the long weekend without letting the weather get to them.

David Luke and his family came down from Seattle for July 4th festivities. He said the last two days have been beautiful. He said even though the beach was crowded, it was worth to celebrate Independence Day.

“It’s a lot of work getting to a spot, but we got a great spot and watched the fireworks all night long,” he said.

Julie Auflic who lives in Vancouver, brought her kids and friends to the coast to keep everyone cool and entertained.

“It’s the perfect day for one number one the weather, the sun, the ocean in the background, the sand for the kids, we love the Oregon coast. We’re going to go to Seaside next. It’s a perfect place to bring families,” she said.

Even a family all the way from Mumbai is enjoying Cannon Beach.

“We’re having fun. The weather is amazing. We played cards. We had some sandwiches, and now we’re heading for some photos. The wind is great, so the weather is not a problem near the beach, and we are from India originally so summer is our problem, so we are used to this weather,” said Jay Shah.

From watching fireworks to playing in the sand, people aren’t letting the heat stop their fun.
