WASHINGTON COUNTY Ore. (KPTV) - Two brush fires were started by farm equipment Friday afternoon in unincorporated Washington County, according to the Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue.

Just after 3 p.m., fire crews responded to a fast-moving brush fire near buildings on Southwest Firdale Road. Because there were no fire hydrants in the area, firefighters upgraded the fire to a second alarm, in order to bring in more crews and vehicles.

Crews were able to surround and contain the fire, and protect nearby buildings. They said it burned 19 acres total.

Then, as firefighters were dealing with the Firdale Road, another fast-moving brush fire was reported at 4:30 p.m. in a field near Southwest Scholls Sherwood and Southwest Roy Rogers. This fire did not threaten any buildings.

Crews were able to contain that fire to two acres of recently cut hay, keeping it from spreading to a nearby 30-acre uncut hay field.

TVF&R said firefighters spent two hours at the first fire and 90 minutes at the second extinguishing hot spots. They did not say what farm equipment was responsible for either fire.
