Man arrested for swinging knife at people in SW Portland

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - A 74-year-old man was arrested in Portland Wednesday morning for threatening several people with a knife and fighting with a probation officer.

Around 10 a.m., Portland Police Bureau (PPB) officers were called out to southwest Harvey Milk and 6th Street because a man was threatening people with a knife. When the officer arrived, the man, identified as Reggie D. Leinweber, had been arrested by a Parole and Probation officer.

An explosion from an improvised explosive device (IED) caused damage to a patrol car early Thursday morning, according to the Beaverton Police Department.

No one was injured in the incident.

According to PPB, Leinweber was walking along and swinging his knife at random people. There were four known victims and one unknown. Of the known victims, one was the P&P officer and another was a uniformed security officer.

Among other charges, Leinweber faces aggravated assault for spitting on the P&P officer.
