Portland, other metro cities implement burn bans

A burn ban has been put in place for the city of Portland by the Fire Marshal in anticipation of high temperatures, limited rainfall and dry conditions.

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - A burn ban has been put in place for the City of Portland by the Fire Marshal in anticipation of high temperatures, limited rainfall and dry conditions.

Clackamas, Clark County, and Multnomah County also announced that they will be implementing burn bans in light of these conditions. Clackamas Fire will begin enforcing their ban beginning July 3 at 12:01 a.m. PST, and Clark County July 5 at 12:01 a.m. PST. While Multnomah’s burn ban goes into effect immediately.

  • Multnomah County and the City of Portland have banned backyard burning, recreational campfires, fire pits and agricultural burning.
  • In Clackamas County, all areas served by the Clackamas Fire District are under a burn ban. Fire pits and recreational fires are allowed in this area, but strongly discouraged.
  • Clark County’s burn ban will begin Friday morning and includes all outdoor burning with some exceptions for designated campgrounds and private property.

Fires are permitted in some circumstances but with restrictions.

Extreme caution is advised when outdoor barbecuing, although it is still allowed officials are asking to ensure proper disposal of ashes and other materials. Make sure to also check that all cigarettes and cigars are extinguished properly.

Portland Fire and Rescue is asking those living in rural areas to monitor the areas surrounding their homes, and to maintain adequate access for firefighting equipment.

The burn bans will remain in effect throughout the summer weather season.
