PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) - A Portland nonprofit is relying on community support after back-to-back break-ins.

Windows are still boarded up at Scrap PDX on Southwest Alder Street, near Providence Park. Employees tell FOX 12 someone smashed a window in the middle of the night on memorial day and got inside the building, before leaving empty-handed.

A week later, employees say someone threw a rock through another window in broad daylight while people were inside the store.

It was one word, painted causally on a piece of plywood, that created a frenzy at a Northwest Portland warehouse Sunday afternoon.

No one was hurt and nothing was stolen, but the nonprofit says this has impacted their mission to provide affordable materials and education on what they call “creative re-use.”

“This hurts our community as much as it hurts us. It’s heartbreaking to see this around the neighborhood, it’s really tough, but it’s nice for all of us to be able to stand together and support each other,” said Adrian Brown, director of Scrap PDX.

Brown says community members have been very supportive since the damage was done but they’re still looking for donations in the form of cash or materials. To help, click here.
