2 killed in stolen car crash identified as former students at Portland high school

Two people killed in a stolen car crash last week in southeast Portland have been identified as former students at Ida B. Wells High School.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) - Two people killed in a stolen car crash last week in southeast Portland have been identified as former students at Ida B. Wells High School.

The incident happened during the early morning hours on Tuesday, June 25, when Gresham police tried to stop a car at Southeast 159th Avenue and Southeast Division Street. Police say the driver did not stop and ended up crashing into another car and a utility pole at Southeast 139th Avenue and Southeast Division Street.

Police later learned that car had been stolen.

Recent Ida B. Wells graduate Cole “CJ” Johnson suffered life-threatening injuries and is recovering. Two others in the stolen car, Dylan Brasky and Jayden Rolon-Ekis, both 16, died in the crash. According to police, investigators determined Rolon-Ekis was driving the stolen car at the time of the crash. Brasky was a passenger.

The driver of the other car suffered minor injuries and stayed at the scene.

Brasky and Rolon-Ekis were Ida B. Wells sophomores who had recently transferred to PCC, according to a letter from Principal Ayesha Coning.

“Our hearts go out to Dylan and Jayden’s families and friends, and we continue to wish CJ a full recovery,” Principal Coning said the letter to Ida B. Wells staff, students and families.

The school says they will be offering counseling to support staff and students once the new school year begins.
