PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - The Portland Trail Blazers have exercised their team option on the contract of guard Dalano Banton for the 2024-25 NBA season, general manager Joe Cronin announced Saturday.

Banton was acquired from the Boston Celtics in February for a future second round pick. After being buried on the bench of the eventual champions, Banton shone is his stint with Portland, averaged 16.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists over 30 games, including eight starts.

The Toronto native averaged over 29 minutes per game for the injury-depleted Blazers, after averaging just seven minutes a game in Boston.

Banton was the 46th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors out of Nebraska. He is set to make just shy of $2.2 million this season, and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the campaign.

The NBA’s official free agency period begins at 3 p.m. tomorrow.
