PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - There are many ways to show patriotism, like flying a flag, participating in a parade, voting, enlisting in the military, or actively trying to better the lives of your fellow citizens.
Loving your country and its people while acknowledging its shortcomings and working to improve them is what it means to be a patriot.
According to a new study by WalletHub, Oregon is one of the most patriotic states in America.
WalletHub conducted a comparison of the states on 13 metrics including the state’s military enlistees and veterans to the share of adults who voted in the 2020 presidential election to AmeriCorps volunteers per capita.

“The most patriotic states have a lot of residents who serve or have served in the armed forces, high voter turnouts during elections, and a high share of the population volunteering with national or local organizations. Patriotism also isn’t concentrated in any one particular area – the top states are located in vastly different geographic regions,” said Cassandra Happe, a WalletHub data analyst.
Oregon came in at no. 5 out of all 50 states. Only Virginia, Alaska, Montana, and Maine ranked higher on WalletHub’s list.
Oregon ranked second for Civic Engagement, and 38th for Military Engagement.
Oregon is 3rd place for the % of adults who voted in the 2020 Presidential Election.
Washington ranked at No. 8 on the list. With 8th for Military Engagement and 11th for Civic Engagement.
Blue states were found to be more patriotic than red states in WalletHub’s analysis.
