ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - On Tuesday, the City of St. Louis officially cut the ribbon on Forst Park’s new basketball courts.

The site includes two full courts, two half courts, lighting, a pavilion, 36 new trees and player benches. The courts are named after 18-year-old Nicholas Booker, who collapsed from an asthma attack and died in 2018. His family said Nick loved basketball and hoped the new additions would spread the game even further.

Forest Park is one of the largest urban parks in the country. In its 148 years of existence, the park never had basketball courts.

The courts will officially open at at 10 a.m. on Saturday. There will be high school games, wheelchair games and a local celebrity game.
