ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Crowds gathered downtown and watched the skies nervously as the Celebrate St. Louis parade began.

The event was one of a few around the area that went on as planned despite the threat of rain.

Kaylee Farmer came prepared for the worst.

“She brought a poncho,” she said, gesturing to her friend. “I brought an umbrella just in case. It looks like it might, still.”

Through most of the morning pouring rain had worried the crowd, as well as some of the people marching in the parade or riding on floats. The parade featured 140 different groups involved in the celebration.

Billy Bitting, dressed in a stars and stripes suit with a matching hat and boots, was handing out candy to kids while riding a hoverboard.

He felt that, if anything, the rain had cooled things down a bit.

“Earlier today it was awful,” he said. “But we watched the radar and it ended up being beautiful. Not 98 degrees and sunny.”
