LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KCTV) - Jerick McKinnon hasn’t appeared in a game for the AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs since Dec. 17. But that’s not stopping him from holding out hope for a return for Sunday’s Super Bowl.

The Chiefs’ 31-year-old running back was placed on injured reserve with a groin injury after scoring a touchdown and passing for another during Kansas City’s Week 14 win over the New England Patriots.

Monday night, at Super Bowl Opening Night at Allegiant Stadium, McKinnon told KCTV he’s taking things slowly in hopes of being available for Super Bowl LVIII.

“Day by day steps, see what happens,” McKinnon said. “It’s a long week.”

McKinnon scored four touchdowns during the 2023 regular season. Last season, only Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce’s 12 touchdowns outpaced McKinnon’s 9 scores.
